Think elephants can't swim
and
hate
water?
Answer is..YOU'RE WRONG!!!!!
![]() don't come here and expect to be dry!!!! |
![]() Mentopian love water very much! |
In 1990, 3 wild
elephants swam across
the
open sea of 5 kms
from Johore and landed in Pulau Tekong,
an island owned and
used by Singapore Armed Forces.
All hell
broke loose..
and Singapore's finest army chaps ran
helter
skelter.
The Singapore Zoo was called upon for help
but they sent an S.O.S.
to the Elephant
Capture & Translocation Unit<ECTU>.
The team came in and showed the soldiers
what real men were!!!!
And as for the naughty
" touristy
" elephants - they became
celebraties and were promptly sent home!
Questions were asked
.. why did they
swim there?
The most common reasons were that they
probably heard
about the JUMBO
sale in Orchard Road, Singapore.
Maybe...they didn't want to be
thumb...errr...footprinted
by the Singapore Immigration authorities?
Hmmmm....we wonder......and they went
through the
customs & immigration
without being stopped while we had
to have our passports stamped!!

Just when the elephant thought it
was safe to go back
into
the waters...the visitors came
in!!!
'He [the elephant] learns to
remember
such melodies as can only
be remembered by people acquainted with music….'
Abu al-Fazl ibn Mubarak, Ain I Akbari,
translated from
the Persian by H. Blochmann and
H.S. Jarrett, Calcutta, 1873.

Note ;
Listen
& do as you are told by the Staff/Volunteer
on duty
- NOT your guide! If there is another guide that is making TOO much noises - feel free to advise the said guide to tone down his voice A considerable number of visitors have indeed informed us of a certain regular indian guide whom is too noisy and thus prevented them from listening to what the sanctuary's staff are explaining about! |
|
Remain
calm when approaching elephants.
Ask your Guide to be tone down his/her voice, please! |
PLEASE CHANGE INTO YOUR
CLOTHES AT THE TOILET-CUM-SHOWER,
NOT
IN THE PUBLIC!
Wear a T-shirt over the bikini OR
swimsuit during
the river activities
with the elephants as this is a muslim / malay
community.
