DONATIONS & SPONSORSHIPS
          PLEASE HELP USSSSSS!

Pics & information courtesy of the Elephant Man

The elephant is nearest to man in intelligence: it understands the language of its country and
obeys orders, remembers duties it has been taught, is pleased by affection and by marks of
honour ; nay more, it possesses virtues rare even in man, honest, wisdom, justice, also respect
for the stars and reverence for the sun and moon.'
- Pliny, the Roman Historian

NEED URGENT DONATIONS!
We need DIRECT no frills donations of ;
TWO camcorders with 60G hardisk to documents proceedings during our monthly wild eephant rescue operations
as well as while providing medicare for rescued wild elephants too.

THREE Garmin 60CSX GPS to use during monthly wild elephant rescue operations.

Sponsorship of pellets (Animal nutrition) for the residence elephants' daily intake - it costs RM 65-00 per sack of 50kgs
while the 19 residence elephants , ranging from a smallish less than 1 year old baby elephant to an early 70s female
elephant consume 80kgs of peller EVERY day. We need 15 EXTRA sacks per month to supplement the current supply
which was initially based on 12 residence and rescued elephants!

DIRECT
no frills donation means that you give for the love of the elephants and not for the love of a publicity
stunt :-) but your name will be mentioned in this website!

Please ask for a STANDARD DONATION FORM @ the Visitor Registration Counter for your sponsorship!

Although the Sanctuary receives funding from the Malaysian government via the Department  of  Wildlife &
National Parks or DWNP, additional fundings from externally generated sources are
always welcomed with open........trunks?

However,
ALL donations should NOT  be string-attached as conservation of wildlife must come deep from and within the heart.

The Elephant Trust Fund or ETF is managed via the BioDiversity Fund<BDF> under the DWNP (Or Jabatan PERHILITAN in malay)
based at its headquarter office in Kuala Lumpur. The DWNP itself is under the
Ministry of Natural Resources & Environment.

ALL monetary donations sent to the BDF will be accounted for and donors can either donate in cash OR even
crossed cheque payable to " Director General, DWNP, Malaysia " at the Sanctuary.

Cheque donors are required to  leave their full name and addresses CLEARLY  for the DWNP to post official
receipts while cash
donations will be issued government receipts immediately at the sanctuary.

The sanctuary has currently, we have a substantially large number of officialreceipts that we're unabled to send out
due to insufficient donor particulars and unreadable hand writings!!!

It is ALWAYS better to donate DIRECTLY towards the fund instead of going through a Third Party - usually an
NGO - as the funds can be utilised quickly. Donating towards a Third Party always means that the  monies are
withold for several months and, usually, this Third Party, whom do not have the expertise  nor the experience,
are more passionate towards making a good name for itself instead of being passionate for all the sincere and
right reasons :-) in helping this good cause!!! A few even used the monies donated to them to be kept in fixed
deposit accounts in order to generate profits via interest for their own funds!!!

There are also NGOs that organise donations for the cause publicly but to date, NOT A SINGLE CENT has
been received by the sanctuary!!!

So - make it a point to give WHERE it matters most - DIRECTLY towards the fund!

And even if you have indeed donated towards a Third Party, please be advised that the Government DOES NOT
issue the receipts for your donation - only that Third Party does!

Once, an expatriate visitor created a ruckus, enquiring undiplomatically, as to what happened to the monies that he donated!
Our die hard individual supporter - The Elephant Man - had to make 2 return trips to the sanctuary,
on his own time, effort and money, to personally go through the donation forms and pointed out to the donor that
he should collect his donation receipt from the NGO - one of the local chapters of an international NGO - as he
donated NOT to the Elephant Trust Fund but to the said NGO! No apology nor a tahnk you note was  extended.

It seems to be very easy for visitors, especially foreigners, to pick a reason and paint the picture dark and gloomy
when things
do not go towards their advantage!!! Nonetheless and fortunately, most foreign visitors are true blue EleFriends! and
constitute
a large chunk of the donation proceeds forthe fund :-)

ALL monetary donations towards the BDF will be utilised for the costs involved in the capture & translocation
exercise which may vary from as little as RM 20,000-00 to RM 60,000-00 PER operation depending on the distance
and difficulty of the exercise.

The DWNP will usually bear the costs of the exercise if the area of conflict involves populated villages but if the
area involved is
strictly in an oil palm, rubber or fruit plantation, the owner/s of the plantation is required to bear
the cost of the exercise.

If you would like to adopt       at the sanctuary  - you only have to write DIRECTLY
towards the sanctuary OR send us an email and we will forward it tothe management of the sanctuary.

However - sponsoring an elephant DOES NOT mean that you can demand to the staff @ the Visitor Registration
Office that you would like to and have the right to ride the sponsored
elephant during the off-activities period.
This happened once  when a member of a
local NGO club brought a donor whom later insisted that the party be
given the right to
ride the sponsored elephant during an off-activity period of the day!
..and she calls herself a lover and protector of the elephants who only comes once in a blue moon & throw her
weight around the sanctuary and  even threatened that her NGO club will stop providing donations!!!!
