The elephant is nearest to man in intelligence: it understands the language of its country and
obeys orders, remembers duties it has been taught, is pleased by affection and by marks of
honour ; nay more, it possesses virtues rare even in man, honest, wisdom, justice, also respect
for the stars and reverence for the sun and moon.'
- Pliny, the Roman Historian

NEED URGENT DONATIONS!
We need DIRECT no frills donations of ;
12V water resistant spotlights to be used while releasing relocated wild elephants in the night as we as during  NIGHT TIME
WILD ELEPHANT CONTROL OPERATIONS.
Please write to The Elephant Man or ring him @ 019 3422049

DIRECT
no frills donation means that you give for the love of the elephants and not for the love of a publicity
stunt :-) but your name will be mentioned in this website!

Although the Sanctuary receives funding from the Malaysian government via the Department  of  Wildlife &
National Parks or DWNP, additional fundings from externally generated sources are
always welcomed with open........trunks?
However, ALL donations should NOT  be string-attached as conservation of wildlife must
come
deep from and within the heart.

The Elephant Trust Fund or ETF is managed via the BioDiversity Fund<BDF> under the DWNP (Or Jabatan PERHILITAN in malay) based at its headquarter office in Kuala Lumpur. The DWNP itself is under the
Ministry of Natural Resources & Environment.

ALL monetary donations sent to the BDF will be accounted for and donors can either donate in cash OR even
crossed cheque payable to " Director General, DWNP, Malaysia " at the Sanctuary.

Cheque donors are required to  leave their full name and addresses CLEARLY  for the DWNP to post official
receipts while cash
donations will be issued government receipts immediately at the sanctuary.

The sanctuary has currently, we have a substantially large number of officialreceipts that we're unabled to send out
due to insufficient donor particulars and unreadable hand writings!!!

Alternatively, you can make either a local Bank-In-Depositor in Malaysian Ringgit  or a Telegraphic Transfer
or
TT in either US dollars / Euros / Japanese Yen / Sterling Pound and payable to ;

" Director General, DWNP "
Details of the account are ;
C/A 14230003412053
Bumiputera Commerce Berhad
Jalan Duta branch
Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA

For cheque deposits, please write 351-050101-87805 behind the cheque with a letter informing the department
of your deposit AND a copy of the bank in slip. You can either leave the cheque OR post the cheque to the Officer-In-Charge of the sanctuary<Please scroll down to see the full address of the sanctuary>

It is ALWAYS better to donate DIRECTLY towards the fund instead of going through a Third Party - usually an
NGO - as the funds can be utilised quickly. Donating towards a Third Party always means that the  monies are
withold for several months and, usually, this Third Party, whom do not have the expertise  nor the experience,
are more passionate towards making a good name for itself instead of being passionate for all the sincere and
right reasons :-) in helping this good cause!!! A few even used the monies donated to them to be kept in fixed
deposit accounts in order to generate profits via interest for their own funds!!!

There are also NGOs that organise donations for the cause publicly but to date, NOT A SINGLE CENT has
been received by the sanctuary!!!

So - make it a point to give WHERE it matters most - DIRECTLY towards the fund!

And even if you have indeed donated towards a Third Party, please be advised that the Government DOES NOT
issue the receipts for your donation - only that Third Party does!

Once, an expatriate visitor created a ruckus, enquiring undiplomatically, as to what happened to the monies that he donated!  Our die hard individual supporter - The Elephant Man - had to make 2 return trips to the sanctuary,
on his own time, effort and money, to personally go through the donation forms and pointed out to the donor that
he should collect his donation receipt from the NGO - one of the local chapters of an international NGO - as he
donated NOT to the Elephant Trust Fund but to the said NGO! No apology nor a tahnk you note was  extended.

It seems to be very easy for visitors, especially foreigners, to pick a reason and paint the picture dark and gloomy
when things
do not go towards their advantage!!! Nonetheless and fortunately, most foreign visitors are true blue EleFriends! and constitute a large chunk of the donation proceeds forthe fund :-)

ALL monetary donations towards the BDF will be utilised for the costs involved in the capture & translocation
exercise which may vary from as little as RM 20,000-00 to RM 60,000-00 PER operation depending on the distance
and difficulty of the exercise.

The DWNP will usually bear the costs of the exercise if the area of conflict involves populated villages but if the
area involved is
strictly in an oil palm, rubber or fruit plantation, the owner/s of the plantation is required to bear
the cost of the exercise.

TOP

NOTE ; However, if you wish to see your donation be used for the continued management of the resident
elephants at the Sanctuary, an official letter is required, giving specific instructions of your request.
Otherwise, your donation will be channelled towards the monthly operating costs of wild elephant capture &
relocation exercises.

The instruction letter must be addressed to :

Officer-In-Charge
Kuala Gandah Elephant
Orphanage Sanctuary
Lanchang, Temerloh
28500 Pahang D. Makmur,
MALAYSIA

The letter MUST state the amount payable & crossed cheque payable to " Director General, DWNP " and with
a specific instruction
that you wish the monies donated to be used for the continued maintenance & training of the residence elephants with a full name & postal address, for us to post an official receipt.

We cuurently have an estimated 4 years old plus female elephant
that we termed her as the " Tigerproof Elephant! ".
Her name is Sanum and she was a badly mauled by a tiger,
lost her tail, has claw and bite marks all over as well
as her back soles partially ripped off!

WE ALSO HAVE FOUR BABY ELEPHANTS
- SHAWAL
, SIPUT, BERABUNG  & the latest one - CHEPOR!
They are, however, OFF LIMITS to the general public and
kept in
the Quarantine & Treatment area.

URGENT
We need sponsors to build a small open house for a recently retired
female elephant - Mek Bunga -  which has gone blind after years and years of
hard work in saving almost 400 wild elephants.
The small open house would probably cost about RM 40,000-00 to build
complete with a roof, fences, concrete floor and partially concrete wall,
a small pool for her to bathe and also railings to guide her.
PLEASE.... PLEASE....PLEASE
pass this appeal to your organisation!

URGENT
We recently rescued from the wilds a young female elephant,
badly injured where the lower left front leg of hers was sliced off by
poacher's snare made from steel cable.
SELENDANG - as she is called.... is healing well
and we have plans to get her a prosthetic limb.
any SPONSORS  of a prosthetic limb is much appreciated!
PLEASE.... PLEASE....PLEASE
pass this appeal to your organisation!

If you would like to adopt       at the sanctuary  - you only have to write DIRECTLY
towards the sanctuary OR send us an email and we will forward it tothe management of the sanctuary.

However - sponsoring an elephant DOES NOT mean that you can demand to the staff @ the Visitor Registration
Office that you would like to and have the right to ride the sponsored
elephant during the off-activities period.
This happened once  when a member of a
local NGO club brought a donor whom later insisted that the party be
given the right to
ride the sponsored elephant during an off-activity period of the day!
..and she calls herself a lover and protector of the elephants who only comes once in a blue moon & throw her
weight around the sanctuary and  even threatened that herNGO club will stop providing donations!!!!

** " Chepor " has since been transferred to the Malacca Zoo

The Entrepreneur's Organisation KL - http://www.eonetwork.org.my - came and donated 9 pieces of
durable but elephant friendly rubber mats for the baby elephants' paddock .
The hobbit-like babies - Berabung, Siput and Shawal took to the mats quickly and they were all able to sleep
on the once cold concrete floors comfortably now! Many thanks for your kind donation!!!

anti maggot spray, surgical gloves and milk for the Quarantine & Treatment staff of the sanctuary

On September 12th 2004 , the ECTU received a pleasant gift in the form of Motorola Talkabout Walkie
Talkies T5650
which are small, rugged and has a 5 miles range - good enough for the team to
use in the harsh
and humid environment of the jungles.

Though these gifts are small in physical size - it may well save the lives of the dedicated members of this unit and
also makes it slightly easier
for the unit to track down rogue wild elephants for relocation.
